Description
The southern part of the PKP Warszawa Zachodnia Railway Station is part of the planned integrated PKP-PKS transport hub and future metro and underground tram stations.
The main part, i.e. the hall with a waiting room, a set of ticket offices and service premises, was designed underground with the planned extension of the tunnel to enter the platforms. The entrance to the hall is roofed with a light, straight-lined, steel glazed structure, with a geometry built on the basis of a segment of a cylinder with an ellipse base. The architecture of the facility is based on simple formal solutions subordinated to the geometry of the roof structure. The architectural concrete used inside is a sculpture and a structure at the same time. Designing the building, due to its complex shape, required constant full-industry work in 3D.
